After I installed some new RAM (completely new, replacing the old ones) my windows doesn't boot anymore. The strange thing is that everything else on the computer loads properly and I can even get to the log in screen of Windows Vista but after I log in my computer restarts without warning. Does anyone know how this problem could be solved?

which ram and which vista?

a guess would be you need the 4gb hotfix for vista, put your old ram in and download/install it then try the new ram.

i should also say you need to make sure the ram is set to spec for the volts and timings.

So now I've tried taking one RAM out so there's only 2GB. I've also set the timing controls and the voltage to the specifications. It seems to help since vista doesn't freeze after I log in anymore, now it just goes straight to a blue error screen.

It......it works now! I don't know how I got the 2GB working but after that all I needed was the Vista hotfix and now it works!

P.S. How do I get 4GB working in Windows XP?

32bit xp (sp2 only) will know its there but due to adressing issues it can only use upto 3.5gb, now this will include any other ram you have on graphics, sound or other add in cards.

funny thing is tho pre sp2 it would use it all :S

not a bad guess in my first post then :)
