Any differences? 7200rpm, prices are about the same, seek time are about the same. Its probably going to be my slave drive and i will have a 10,000rpm for my primary. Is there some cons/major cons i should get 2 500gb than 1 tb? Noise will probably be a con, but i dont care too much about noise, since they dont make much noise anyway. Also whats a good brand hdd? I have heard alot of what is good. Ive only had maxtors and some slow 5,200rpm WD and i like maxtor better. 1TB brands are Samsung, Hitachi, WD, & Seagate.
thanks in advance.

I'd take the 1Tb HDD.

1Tb HDD's from what I've gathered are all perpendicular recording which means faster and better access time.

Also with 2 HDD's you take up twice as much space and practically have twice as much noise not to mention a lot more power draw.

As for brand of HDD I've never really been too picky about what HDD I bought.

The 1 terabyte HDD's are still relatively new and expensive so I doubt it will tank on you but somebody else might be able to advise you better on that point.

In short I'd spring for the 1 terabyte HDD and I wouldn't be too fussed about which brand it was, just save yourself the money and go for a cheaper one IMO.

prices are about the same? Where?
Over here it's £90 for a 1TB drive and £40 for a 500GB...

If the drive's going in a cheap rattly case then you'll want to avoid Samsungs as they vibrate a lot and will drive you mad, other than that no real disadvantages to any brand, they're all very quiet and very fast. I recommend WD and Seagate usually, though my new 750GB Samsung is very impressive.

I'm in the UK too.

Mind me asking where you've spotted the drives at those prices?

I've seen around 50 for the 500GB ones and I haven't seen below 100 for the 1 terabyte ones.

It's quite amazing how fast the prices have fallen on these drives!
