Ok First off I went to the following link and found out which version PS2 I have (I think it is which one I have)

Check PS2 Version

The one I have according to that site is the V5/V6 because mine has the screw, it says SCPH-30001 R on the back, and has only 8 screws instead of 10. It has the hazard thing on the bottom but it says if it has the screw that it is a V5/V6 so that is why I figured it was that one.

On to my issue at hand now. I currently am trying to make backup copies of my games I have. I have tried to make direct copies using a walkthrough I found online which is EXACT to the one I found here. I use NERO (version 8) and I was trying to burn a DVD game. First, I tried burning from one CD Drive to the Burner Drive. Didn't work and gave me a bad game that was no good. I have also tried this with a PS1 game and it doesn't work either. But my issue is first with the DVD game. I will get back to the PS1 game later once I master the DVD and non-DVD PS2 games. The game I was trying to burn is Champions: Return to Arms (its an Everquest game, part 2 to it).

I know I can play burned games on my system because I have a few that I play that I have already that a friend did. I use Swap Magic for the PS2 for PS2 games and a PS1 Swap Magic CD for the PS1 games. So I know that this is not the issue at hand. When I put in the game I burned, once I press X at the screen where your supposed to (after the swap) it just starts to spin then starts making a semi-loud high pitched noise. It then just kinda freezes after that.

I have taken the files off the CD and onto my computer so if I need to burn them straight to the CD that way I can. Though I don't know if I need to make them into something else first. Other people keep talking about .ISO files? I just followed the walkthrough for NERO is all I did. Didn't say anything about those. Anyways this is turning into a short story lol, if anyone can help I would greatly apprecaite it and if you need any other info just let me know. I also have Alcohol 120% if that would work better. Also, I was told you couldn't burn Playstation games any faster than like 4x or the system won't read them, does this hold true with the DVD ones as I have been burning them at this too for safety reasons. This could also be my problem as it doesn't say what speed to chose in the walkthrough. Thanks again.

in short terms, use imgburn. free to download, lightweight program, very simple to use, and works great with games.

ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure

got a whole lot more to list . . .

ok now if i use that on the one i already burned will I still get the ISO? Or do I need to do it from the original CD? I have two I tried and one was one I borrowed from a friend and I no longer have it at the moment but I have the CD. It has all the files and stuff on it so would it have the ISO also?

EDIT

Also, if i can or if i can make an image from the files on the PC (the came from that CD) do i rename the ISO file? do I change the Read speed to 1x or just when I Write it?

best is to start fresh, and re-rip and burn the game with imgburn. nero is complicated for ripping games.

your cd won't work because it's not a direct copy of the game disc.

excellent response time...last question...once i get the ISO file....i just follow the instructions on burning for NERO? for a DVD?

(copied direct from forums here)

Using Nero

1. Start Nero, Use the Wizard (for easy use)
2. Select "DVD" then select Next
3. Select "Copy a DVD" then select Next
4. Select your source drive
5. Select or Deselect "copy on the fly" then click next
6. Select your write speed
7. Select either "Test", "Test and Burn" or "Burn"
8. Press "Burn" to begin

This next way is without the Wizard

1. Start Nero, and select "File" then "New..."
2. On upper left side of the window from the drop down menu select "DVD"
3. Select "DVD Copy" Icon
4. Select "Copy options" tab
5. Select or Deselect "copy on the fly"
6. Select source drive and read speed
7. If needed Select "Image" tab to choose image directory and select/deselect "delete image..."
8. Select "Burn" tab and choose your settings
9. Press "Copy" to begin

if so i would use the wizard....and then for source i select ISO?...DESELECT on the fly...select lowest write speed (i dont think it will let me do 1x)....then burn?

EDIT

i also found in the long way of burning it you can chose DVD-ROM (ISO) would that be the one i chose then? the tabs are then Info, Multisession, ISO, Label, Dates, Misc., Burn

imgburn can read and write. much less complicated than nero.

run imgburn, and you'll be presented with six choices

for ripping:
- choose create image from disc
- click the folder icon in destination box
- choose a safe spot to save the iso (preferably desktop), then name the iso, and save
- click the read icon (big icon on bottom left)
- imgburn will start ripping the game; allow it to finish

for burning:
- go to mode, and choose write (or write image file to disc if you restart imgburn)
- under source, click first folder icon
- load .iso of game
- change speed to 4x (preferred)
- click the write icon (big icon on bottom left)
- imgburn will start burning the game; allow it to finish

you can leave verify, if you want.

a iso is a image of a disc; it's one big file, which is the size of the disc you ripped. the contents of the disc will be in the big iso file.

when you load the iso and burn it (with imgburn, nero, A120%, etc.), you'll see the contents of the disc again.

well i have tried and tried the way that this says and for some reason i keep getting a DVD Game that isnt working. If someone is willing to help me or show me another way that they know works with a DVD PS2 game I am all ears. This way is not working for me for some reason. As I said I am using a Game Shark (i think i said that) and the CD that goes to it for swaping (i may have said swap magic if so i apologize). I have the CD and the GS Card both in when trying to do the swap. I have done this with other backups I already have had made from old friends (that moved away) and they work fine. I am not sure what the problem is but I would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks in advance and much appreciated.
