i have an hp a820 desktop that has been running windows xp for a long time now, probably 4 years. it has 512mb RAM, a 200gb hdd, and a dvd+-rw drive and cd drive. now, something happened and the computer refused to boot xp. i have formatted the hdd several times now, and i can't get it to install xp. the computer shuts off when the xp install says "installing devices", about halfway through. the blue power light is still on however, but no hdd activity is occurring. it does this EVERY time.
so, i figured vista could fix the problem. but no. it appears to copy the files, expand files, etc., sucessfully. but when it says "please wait while windows prepares to start for the first time", it turns off also, but the blue light is still active but with no hdd activity. i know my install discs are fine as ive used them before.
i am getting frustrated. i have partitioned my hdd and tried the install that way. no success. is it a BIOS issue by any chance? is my hard drive dying? can someone help me PLEASE?!
