My Pioneer drive started acting up after I updated my divx player. I dunno if that had anything to do with it but now it will not burn to dvd, just cd? As soon as I start to burn to a dvd-rw it it stops and says "burn complete" and spits out the disc? Anyone ever heard of this before? All else on the computer is fine.

Does that happen youst with DVD-RW or any DVD-R/+R? Have you tried a new disc?(The DVD-RW can become useless after a few burns sometimes).

It's a possibility that your lens is dirty and needs cleaning or the laser is getting weak. How old is your burner?

99% of all problems are between the computer and the chair.

Pioneer drives usually last more than 12 months.

It will not burn any dvd disks at all -/+r -/+rw??

I suspect something DRM related went on with updating the divx player.

Try restoring the machine back to a point before the upgrade and see if that cures it..
Also run a full antivirus/spyware scan.. If you find anything fix it before proceeding.

Otherwise this has all the signs of a burned out dvd laser.

Not weird at all. Your CD/DVD burner uses two different lasers, one for CDs and one for DVDs. The DVD laser can be busted and still be able to burn CDs.
Maybe you picked up some bug like Varnull was saying. You can also look for a rootkit:

http://sectools.org/rootkit-detectors.html (or google for any other free applications like Sophos or AVG).

What burning software did you use? If you used Nero or ImgBurn, post a log for someone to take a look.

why don't you try a system restore to the day before you started having your problems, and see if that don't help
