PS2 Slim. Circular ring on games

I bought a ps2 slim recently and I'm getting a wide circular scratch around the underside of my games (both originals and backups). The scratch is located around the position where the laser is resting when you put the disc in. The puzzling thing is it only happens to some of my games and I'm not sure what's causing it. Help me please

I would send it back then for repair or replacement.

mine isn't around the CD hole though. Its near the outer edge. and its always in the same spot. starts out light, then becomes more obvious to the eye. So are they the same cause? I bought it used, so I don't have a warranty

It still sounds like its the drive tray or spindle causing the scratches.

thanks. so the only solution is to buy another drive to replace it? or are there still alternatives?

I would try to find a PS2 slim in need of repair on Ebay for cheap.

That way you would have spare parts also for probably about the same price or less.

I don't know of any other alternative, except to take it apart and have a look at it.
