A lot of HDTVs nowadays have VGA ports to support connectivity to PCs. My Magnavox 42' LCD 42MF43ID however, does not have a VGA port. So, I decided to buy an HDMI to DVI cable. My PC does not have a DVI port, so I bought a DVI to VGA converter piece to fully connect everything.
Once connected, I thought that the PC picture would instantly display on the TV, but it didn't. I went into the control panel to try and pick up new hardware and accesories and whatnot. Still no luck.
Im sure there is something that i'm missing that can make it work but i'm not completely sure. I dont know if I have to go in and mess with some video card setting or what. And I considered using S-video, but my PC has no S-video port of any kind.
So now im stumped. Is there something I can do or some type of settings I need changed to make the picture show up? Thanks for any help.
You can't use a VGA to DVI and DVI to HDMI connector - that won't work, as VGA to DVI connectors are only meant to be used so you can view a digital image source on an analog TV, not the reverse. You will have to use a VGA to Component cable if you want a high definition picture.
The graphics card in my PC is an nVidia Geforce 7050/610i. But anyway, im not really all that concerned about having an HD picture, I just want the PC screen to display on my TV. Thanks for the advice, I'm gonna keep working with it using some different cables.
