Hi guys im new to the site and im looking for some help. Thankyou
a friend has asked me to have a look at his pc for him , when you turn it on you just get the screen saying esc to enter menu F8 to enter...etc
trouble is i cant get any further as the keyboard is not being
recognised for some reason , the usb ports are ok because when i plug a memory stick in the light on the stick comes on.
my friend has lost his recovery disk and driver disk too so to be
honest i dont know where to start, i mean i cant enter anything without the keyboard working and i cant insert the disk as i havent got it !!!!!!! arghh !!
by the way i have tried 2 keyboards (one usb type, and one the other round connection type) in all the ports and none of them
are recognising the keyboard but they are recognising the memory stick
thankyou for your help guys, like i say im new to the site so if i have posted this in the wrong place or anything , i aplogise

A PS/2 keyboard should always work if the keyboard works - if it's in the right connector (remember you have to plug a keyboard into the keyboard port, and so for the mouse, they're not general like USB) and is already connected when you turn the PC on and it doesn't pick up the keyboard the BIOS might be faulty and require a flash. You could try resetting the CMOS for now.

thanks for the reply mate. yeah the keyboard is plugged in the correct ps port because when you first turn the pc on the lights on the keyboard (caps lock etc) flash green, then go off and the keyboard is just dead.
how i do i go about doing a "flash" of resetting the cosmos?
thankyou

Just a heads up, they'll flash even if it's in the mouse port.
As for resetting the CMOS, you power off the PC (at the socket as well, not just turning it off), take the CMOS battery out and then use a CMOS clear jumper if your board has one.

It's not difficult, but it has to be done with care. The CMOS battery is a coin-cell sized battery in a slot on the PC's motherboard. The CMOS Clear jumper is a jumper that may or may not be nearby that you have to change (a jumper being a set of metal pins joined with a small plastic connector - you usually change its position to make the reset - see your motherboard manual)

I pray they're spyware and not viruses...
Try using Lavasoft Ad-Aware to clear them all out.
