Hi,

I'm pretty new to this site and have been really impressed. Anyways, I have a Dell Dimension 4550 with XP and started having some monitor issues about a month ago. Since my monitor then was ancient, I decided to change monitors. However, after about a week or so I started having the same issues. Now, a friend let me try his monitor (which definitely works) and the same issues appear.

After a couple of days use, my moniotr will just black out as if I unplugged it. I'm forced to restart my computer and sometimes that works and othertimes it'll black out in a minute or so. Usually, then, I won't use my computer for a day and shut down and when I start up I get a few days, or sometimes a week, before the same issues occur.

Since this is a problem with my computer and not the monitor, does anybody have any idea on what is going on. My video drivers are up to date and I really have little clue at this point.

Thanks,
AfterDawn Addict

When the monitor goes black, does the power light go orange to indicate no signal? if it does, this usually implies a graphics card fault.

yes it does turn orange. If I restart the computer, it'll turn back on as normal.

Yeah it sounds like its the graphics cards, especially since it happens with any monitor.
