I wish I had thought this through before I made this decision. Story: A while ago I put in a wireless router in my relatives house for when I visit. On my last visit I decided to take it back and set it up at my house. But My network is a bit complicated for the average user. Currently I have a Cable modem - connected to a router - the router is connected to 2 computers and 1 switch - the switch is connected to 3 computers and 1 wireless router.
Problem that I just thought of. I can't access the wireless router through means that I know of. I'm almost sure it's not even possible to do this but I just want to ask if it is. Thank in advanced.
I have tried replacing the router with the wireless one but for some reason I cannot get an internet connection from it, which is odd as it worked fine in my relatives house. I have also tried to connect the wireless router to the router, but this just kicks everyone on my network off the internet.

Is it a wireless router or wireless access point? If its a wireless router such as a Linksys WTR54G try pluging tht ethernet cable into one of the ports of the built in switch not the uplink, as it already has a router to address all connections. There also may be an Advanced Routing option to switch it between being a gateway and a router.
Hope this helps fix the issue or at least lights an idea bulb...

Well it is a netgear wgr614. I want to use it as a wireless access point and that is why I am attempting to use the uplink port. This also means (in logic) that I would need to have a second default gateway, which I don't think is possible. Thanks though.

I see that your using it as an access point... If you try hooking up the cable from your switch to a port on the back not the uplink port, you should be able to gain access...

most routers have 5 ports on the back an uplink one and 4 in a switch configuration... don't plug it into the uplink one, plug it into one of the 4 numbered ones...

I don't mean to butt in but...unplug your modem and plug it back in. When you do this your wireless router will pick your IP and you should be ready to get internet access.
BTW, to get access to your netgear type 192.168.0.1 in the address bar

Well thanks for the info. I had previously attempted to reset the modem, going as far as removing the back up battery in it. Still no luck. As for the address, I knew this, and it brings me to my linksys router, which is why I am having a delima figuring out the address for this one.

Thats odd that the linksys router has the netgear IP. IF there are no settings that are important then I would just reset the wireless router from the back and access it that way and create new settings.
I know you know this but,
Linksys default IP is 192.168.1.1
Netgear default IP is 192.168.0.1

because you have two routers... one needs to be set as a router, one needs to be set as a switch... try just replacing the first router (the one connected to your modem) with the wireless one...

Sorry for my bit of arrogance there, wasn't my best night. I didn't know that the two router's had .1 difference. Thanks, yet i still can't seem to get to the netgear router through that ip for some reason.

To repeat my previous post just try replacing the wired router with the wireless one... It should be quite simple to do and solve all the problems... I think at least, as I'm not sure on your complete network configuration...
PS: I checked out your pc in an xbox mod... That's FREAKING sweet!

Well trying to replace the wired router with the wireless one did not work. I still get the problem where i just simply don't have internet access via the wireless, even though it worked fine at my relatives.
Thanks for the compliment on the xbox pc!

Neither connection works. I can pick a wireless signal from it. But I can't get it to assign my computer an ip.

Have you tried resetting the wireless router? Hold the reset button on the back for like 30 seconds...
