I got a fat ps2 and bought swap magic 3.6 the swapmagic cd don't work anymore each time i put the disc in, it says disc error
could someone help

If you still have the DVD disc you can load CD games with that. You will have to use DVDloaderv7all. Otherwise I would suggest cleaning the laser unit and or the disc.

Boot disc needed in between of swapmagic and backup (CD in this case). You can get it over at sksapps.com

Correct, you burn the .iso image to a blank DVD. Just burn at a low speed (4x) with Imgburn.

Hey, will dvdloaderv7all work the other way?
My swap magic 3.6 dvd gives disc read error but cd works fine, if i get dvdloaderv7all and burn it to dvd, will the swap magic 3.6 cd load it?

Why all the pissing about... sorry, but if your laser refuses to read a pressed cd then any kind of dvd loader still isn't going to change the fact that the cd cannot be read. Your laser has failed and you will need to replace or repair it. Same for the one that is reading cd but not dvd. That's how these things fail.. one half usually goes before the other.

No offense but every other dvd and cd (original/backup, once it's not damaged) reads ok in my ps2.
My problem, i want to play my dvd-based-backup games, my swap magic 3.6 dvd doesn't work but my swap magic 3.6 cd works, now you guys said cdloaderv7all would work - it didn't!
What's the point of using swap magic 3.6 cd to boot cdloaderv7all - it's the same thing and i had to waste a cd to find that out!!!
Do you guys try things before you offer them as advice?!!
I'm not sure i should even try dvdloaderv7all! - Let me guess, i have to use swap magic 3.6 dvd to boot dvdloaderv7all, right?!
For me it wont work, why? because my swap magic 3.6 dvd doesn't work.
If anyone can really help, please reply with some good advice.

So you can read a pressed original ps2 dvd, but the swapmagic dvd isn't working.. is that what you are saying?
From the previous posts it sounded like you were trying to boot a dvd game with the cd loader, which doesn't work.
No offence taken, I have seen hundreds and hundreds of ps2's with dodgy lasers, the first sign being they will not boot anything but a blue ps2 original. It might be an idea to have a look at the laser alignment guides because in my experience just one or 2 clicks either way makes all the difference, especially with the very bright swapmagic disks.

Yes, i can play original ps2 games but can't play dvd backups coz my swap magic 3.6 dvd loader stopped working. I took the top off my ps2 so i can see the laser trying to read the disc and clicks(4-6 times) at a certain part of the disc then stops when it can't read it so i know the disc is damaged.
From here, what would you advise?
Do i buy a swap magic 3.6 or 3.8(since 3.8 is newer) or is there some way i can load dvd backups without putting in a modchip in my ps2.

It depends some on who you bought the swapmagic from, and if it is visibly damaged in any way. memtech will replace a faulty disk but I don't know about other sellers.
Try giving the white cog a click or 2 in either direction and trying the disk again.. just remember where it was. Also a really good and careful clean can work wonders.. the large lens under the eye seems to have the most effect, followed by the right angle mirror in the bottom of the laser assembly. There are full disassembly and cleaning guides about the place... but try the cog first ;)
TBH.. I wouldn't chip a ps2 with what looks like the early signs of laser failure.
Now there is a trick to test if your laser will read a burned disk.. make a copy of a disk you have (original) and after it boots swap for the copy.. real easy with the top off.. the disk will slow right down, or even stop on the main menu which is where you swap.

I bought it off amazon.com years ago, i cleaned the lens thoroughly so i know the disc is bad.
I'm gonna buy another.
