My friend recently invested in a mac book air, he is not familiar with the Macintosh Operating System, and neither am I.

How ever he for some reason decided to delete the system file folder, and now when ever he tries to log on to his Mac Book, he is welcomed by "Aflashing blinking light, a no entry sign and the apple symbol".

I would like to know if there is anything I can do to provide a solution to this problem. If any one knows of any could you please let me know.

Thanks.

PS. I have tried searching the Internet for solutions, but they all state that you need a Install Disc what came with the computer, he has lost it :(

You cannot transfer mac os x from one machine to another using direct copy it wont boot this is why utilitys like carbon copy cloner came in handy it replaced the needed boot.efi file with a universal one that works on all machines powerpc or even intel..

The machine should have come with restore media. It's usually best to reinstall from thoes discs. The retail pack (depending on the version) may cause Kernel Panics on startup after install. Sounds like the Retail pack that you got though was a late enough version to support the system. My early 08 MBP requires a minimum of 10.5.2 to boot. If you had installed from Launch date media, you might have run into issues.

The MacBook Air is a mysterious creature. Light and portable but when it comes down to servicing, it really is a pain in the ass.
