Whats the difference between LCD and Plasma?

Dumbass question I know but theres two different categories on NewEgg that I was looking at.

LCD=Liquid Crystal Display.


LCD screens produce up to 1080p, but its blacks arent as good as Plasma's, and are less expensive.

Plasmas go up to 1080p, and it has the deepest blacks and has slightly better color than LCD, but is at high risk for burn in if you leave it paused for hours.
