Help! Computer crashed, how can i retrieve my data?

Yesterday my Dell XPS 1530 froze up and then when i rebooted it beeped twice and a black screen came up that said "no bootable devices press F2 for setup (when i did this the hard drive was not even listed) and F5 for diagnostics, so i did the tests and at the end it said "no diagnostic utility partition identified" so then i put the harddrive in the freezer for an hour and when i put it back in the laptop it came up as "internal hard disk drive not found, to resolve this issue try to reseat the drive. No bootable partition in table" I took the laptop to a computer guy and he hooked it up to his laptop and the laptop read it as a mass storage device but it wouldnt come up in My Computer as a drive and it wouldnt open. Do you think it is toast? Is there any way to get even some of my data back? I have been reading lots of forums and stuff and there are tons of ways to revive a crashed hard drive but im a newbie! I have def. learned my lesson about backing up my files but i have school work i need. Any suggestions at all would be very appreciated, thanks in advance guys!
