Windows Explorer doesn't start.

Almost everyday now, when I start the computer up and login into my profile, windows explorer doesn't start. All I get is my desktop background picture. I have to go into the task manager and do "new task" to start explorer. All the shortcuts and the taskbar come up and sometimes it is fine after I do that, but sometimes my programs that usually startup when windows starts up don't load (my computer wont really function properly if these don't startup). So I have to log off and try again or even reboot the computer and it works ok after that (most of the time). I kind of noticed that this only happens with my profile and not any others. What could be wrong? How do I fix it? I have Windows XP SP3, but this problem was even happening before I downloaded SP3.
