I have been trying to burn movies using TDK and other various discs. I read here that Verbatim was the only way to go. I have already wasted many of these on failed burns. What could be wrong?

Try burning at 4x (you could try a simulated burn - that way you insert a disk - but no actual burning takes place).
The next step would be to check to see if the burner has the latest firmware.

What is using your memory?
Try not to multitask, turn off/shut down any other programs. You need more memory available than that, especially if you are burning at full tilt.

Okay, I 'm pretty new to this. How much memory should I have for a burn?

From memory (I don't have Nero installed at present)
The 'burn options' window 'set parameters for burning' 'recorder settings'.

If you use IMGBurn, it's in the main window and there is a checkbox marked 'test'.

Just make sure to shut down proggies running in the background while you're burning. Don't surf the net, IM, listen to internet radio, etc. It only takes a few minutes to burn a disc, so don't do anything else during the process.

Nero likes about 512 Mbytes minimum to burn, provided you are not multitasking at the time.

Yeah, I think that's the key. I never do anything when burn is in progress.
