I know that rebuilding has a lot of problems depending on what game you play (particularly MGS2:Substance) so I just want to know: when it comes to backing up DVD9 games, is there a catch-all solution where you can just burn a disc straight off with no problems and run it? Because if there is I may consider it.

With a modchip or a PS2 hdd on a FAT PS2 or a V12-13 Slim.

Some have gotten a few DVD9 to work with memor32, but is not reliable as it only seems to work on some PS2's.

Ok then for your v12 you can get hdloader combo which allows you to run a IDE hdd.

With that you can make an ISO image of DVD9 games using Imgburn, then copy the DVD9 ISO to hdd from PC using WinHiip 1.7.6

i think there is....as long as you have the layer 0
meaning where the gamesbreaks helps alot..
from my experience in burning wii SSBB...
all these games have a specify break layer..
too early also cannot, too late also cannot
guys if you have a extra dvd 9 around you have the original god of war 2
try setting your layer for imgburn as 2,083,888 sector
i think the games should work

I already burned my DVD9 games with Imgburn, patched with Toxic dl patcher, and memento disc patcher.
I just leave the settings as they are in imgburn.

I run them with ffgriever's ESR beta 9

They work perfectly

I didn't use your settings.

If you have a .mds file with your ISO, it tells your burner where to put the layer break for dual layer burning.

If you don't have a .mds file then Under the Write tab in Settings, I choose Calculate Optimal for layer break. It is just the default setting.

In Rogue Galaxy my Last Physical Sector in Layer 0: 1,897,711
In God of War 2 Last Physical Sector in Layer 0: 2,280,031

Its the burn speed I find very important.

I use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn at 2.4x or 4x as my media supports up to 8x

hey bro really thanks for posting the sector for rogue galaxy
i do notice that if burning any dual layer for wii or ps2. it's important to set the sector or if you have the original disc.
it's better to follow the original setting for it..
i have try burning rogue galaxy and god of war 2 but all ends up hanging half way in the game...example....gow2 hanges near the bridge where i think icarus should appear...
bro are the last sector for rogue galaxy from the original game?
finding the last sector for god of war 1 as well.
but guys can try my setting as it from the original gow2 disc..
spoil many dvd9 trying to burn a copy so my original don't get scratch

well if you have original Disk and are backing it up, make sure to make an .mds file as well.
That way when you burn it with imgburn, load the .mds file and it will set the layer break.
Thats what the file is for.

I will get my GOW 1 disk in the morning and see where the layer break is if you want.

And yes Rogue galaxy was from original.

Ok my GOW 1 disk layer break is:
Last Physical Sector in Layer 0: 2,283,519

Yes they need to be patched with Toxic Dual layer Patcher.

and if you are going to use ffgriever's ESR beta 9a, you also need to patch it with the disc patcher
