I do hope I am posting in the right spot if not please direct me. I built a gameing computer recently. It is good except for my hard drive only 74 gb. My concern is that my biggest program that I have installed is arround 3 gb everything down the list is 300 mb or less...My question is where is all my space on my hard drive? How would I free up more space? Here is what I have done so far.

I cleaned up in my Program files folder

I deleted all temporary files folders

If anyone can help on this that would be great...Thanks in advanced :)

go thru all main folders to see what each are in size as possibility you are infected with spyware. had that with a custumer with a 40gig drive with only 4meg free. she had a 37 gig folder from hotbar full of shoppers reports. deleted that folder cleared up the lost of space issuse. are you using norton at all as it prevents the recycle bin from being emptied?

Are you using Vista or windows xp?, If you are using vista, the system restore takes up 15 percent of the hard drive alone, you can always disable it which I do on all my computers. If it's xp, disable it also. The times I had to use system restore it didn't fix anything.

Also reduce the space the recycle bin allocates for deleted stuff, maybe get it down to save only 2 percent of what you delete in the recycle bin.

Have you considered putting another hard drive inside your computer? if you install another hard drive, you can move the large programs from you c:\program files" into the other hard drive. As long as you make new shortcuts to the exe files, those programs will still work without reinstallation.

Another thing is do you have a rough idea of how much programs you have installed in your 74gb hard drive? If everything adds up to 30gb, and you only have 4gb free space, you might want to do a scandisk on the hard drive with the box to fix errors checked.

More than likely I think it's the system restore thats hogging up the space.

leave the system restore alone as have used it a number of times to fix problems even on customers' computers. i use windows explorer that i put as a shortcut on the desktop to go thru files & foldrs on all drives.
