I have already used DVD Shrink 3.1 to backup my dvd successfully without all the foreign languages and subtitles. I then load up Nero 6 to write a DVD-Video (following exactly to what the Afterdawn Guide advises) and loading the VIDEO_TS contents into the VIDEO_TS folder of the Nero DVD folder.

Anyway... Everything is OK until I press the WRITE button then it just stops and the timer is now stuck then the system freezes. I tried again after restarting and it says the write speed is 2x and can only write at 2x (whatever that means unless its something to do with the firmware)

I Have a SONY DVD-RW DRU510a and use Panasonic DVD-R 4x on Windows ME. Any suggestions to help me with this issue would be appreciated. All I need to do is write the DVD, if its possible.

Heres another for their Drive clean tool and registry checker, They might help you.

Thanks for the helpful advise. This first link isn't an update driver for Windows ME, it's for Windows NT/2000/XP only.

The second link for the reg cleaners looks like a good solution. I'll post the result here to see if it did help me. If you have anymore ideas to help solve this issue then post it here. :)

Sorry about that, try this one:

They have the different drivers listed on the right side of the page.

Also make sure you are running Shrink version 3.1.3.

The second link was for Windows NT/2000/XP only, but thanks for updating the links and it is for Windows ME this time. Third time lucky!!

It's only a tiny file :-)

Does this file mean that Nero 6 Ultra Edition should be able to work properly. I'm not sure what it does exactly. Please let me know. I am using Shrink DVD 3.1.3 anyway.

I've also got a big problem writing even personal audio cds at Disc-at-Once format on SONY DRU-510ak. Nero aborts before even attempting to write to CD-R.

I wonder if all these problems are down to me picking the wrong drive (because it was cheaper than the others) or that the drivers don't like windows.

Also, what do you think about updating the DVD firmware if that can solve anything. I'm not going ro try it but there is an update to 1.05 from my 1.04 version. Thanks anyway.

Well I was in the general area of the links I wanted to copy, I guess you found em. I would suggest different media but that usually shows up as defects during playback. You have something going on in either your burner, your programs or OS, or your hardware. Lots of stuff to check. Do the easy and free stuff first of course.
Get rid of any unneeded stuff, free some room on your HD, Disc clean and disc defrag.
Shut down as much stuff that is running in the background during your burns as possible.
Get rid of Roxio if you have it.
Use the Nero infotool and send them a copy of your burn log and see what they say. They helped me get my first burn and they can actually read those things!
Try Burnatonce with your -R media.

I just got done talking to my computer guy and he didn't have nice things to say about your ME, He said get rid of it and go with WIN 98.

That would be the first thing i'd do too, change from ME, used to be a pc technician and i tell people this all the time, yet other people swear by it, crazy, it's the worst OS M$ have done yet, and that's saying a lot.

M$ don't even officially support it any more either. It was nothing but a filler for xp.

Anyway hope you work out what's wrong.

I've FINALLY solved all of my probs relating to my DVD rewriter and everything spot-on now. Just don't muck about putting every program under the sun on your system just because you can. You're PC won't like it and its not healthy for you or your drivers.

Anyway, I'm going to get a new system (soon)with Windows XP Pro for better burning options and playing games. What specs have the rest of you got or would like to have to speed up encoding and capture video.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi champman,

Nice of you to post back after you solved your probs, others can learn from your experience!

I'm pretty pleased with my Vaio, I don't ever seem to have problems with it. If I rip a movie with Shrink, Encoding time is about 20 to 25 minutes, then a 14 minute burn with Nero at 4X.

Its just a plain jane computer, (my first) 2.53 Ghz processor, 105 GB hard drive. Win XP home. I added a DVD-ROM and an A06 Pioneer burner. OEM RAM was 512 MB I doubled that to 1024 MB. I also added an external 80 GB hard drive.

I try and keep things tuned up by doing lots of defrags and disc clean-ups, I have a registry checking program that seems to be quite helpful, it always finds problems. I keep my cookies to a minimum and run my spybot program quite often. I get rid of stuff I don't need.
