This about which of the two, xecuter 2.6/3ce, I should buy. I've had a softmodded xbox for awhile now, and (somewhat) extensive knowledge of softmod type things. I want to buy myself a modchip, but I'm stuck. Xecuter 2.6 or 3? I have money enough for 3, but not much after that, and I want to save money if I can. I only found one other thread similar to this here, and the links to the comparisons were both broken. I'm not trying to do too much with my xbox, hdd upgrade, xbmc, halo killtrocity :D, stuff like that. I don't even know. Life's tough for a poor little hard mod noob. Maybe neither of those are what I need, maybe there is some other dirt cheap chip that has everything I need. These two are just the popular ones that I hear so much (and yet so little) about.
Also, anyone remember halomaps? Technically, it's still up, but the forums are gone :(. That site got me into modding first. Why did you leave, HIZLO?
The chip I use is a Duox2 and they can be found for 20 bucks or less. If you just want backups, trainers and a hdd upgrade that might be the way to go.
20 dollars sounds like a steal, and I am looking in to it right now. I just wanted to know, is there anything that I might miss with that instead of an Xecuter? probably not, but I don't know. Is there anything you wish you could do with it that can't be done?
I was wondering what a reputable site for buying chips is. It seems like after that raid, no one sells them anymore. The only site I saw was xbox-modchips.com, but I don't know if they are trustworthy.
The duoX chip line is known for being a cheap chip with like a 30% failure rate. I suggest you pick something better or don't complain when you have a perfect install and a bad chip. No place will refund your money since you are doing the soldering work and if the chip fails it's automatically counted as user inexperience.
I can't remember exactly where i read it, it was when the new duox2 gs was released. Soon after that everyone was copying their chips and making bad versions of them. Sometimes you can't even tell the difference. Even after reading the article on how bad the chips were i bought one and sure enough. I had continutiy to all points and i even tapped 2 d0's and it still wouldn't work like the bios was corrupted. It's like throwing 25 dollars away. It's better to buy a good quality chip, than to find a cheap chip and pray that it will work. If you ask any place that sells modchips they'll tell you there's no warranty and no guarantee on the chip.
Crath, why would you want to hard mod your xbox if it's already softmodded? I don't understand why you need or want a modchip.
It was just something I wanted to try, I guess. I like messing with my xbox just for the hell of it, but if I can accomplish anything I want with a softmod and larger HDD, I guess I can save my money and get that DS chip i've been looking at :). Thanks for that, C4RN1, or I probably would've bought a chip. Not that it's a huge deal, but saving money is nice.
EDIT:By the way, what do you have going on inside your xbox? (Assuming you have one) I've been looking around, and I can't figure out how to apply the >137gb patch for extra large hard drives in a softmodded box. Seeing as I just ordered a 320gb seagate, I'm going to have to buy a chip if I can't patch it any other way.
my main (mother) xbox is a 300gig with a 80mm 12v fan, extra heatsink, painted with a clear jewel and a few blue leds. I also have a (white xcm case, 500gb drive, blue leds, 80mm 12v fan) xbox i use for demos. If you want to see my past projects just check out my profile on here.

You don't have to worry about the 137gb partition anymore. People say softmods corrupt themselves and i have yet to see one that i've modded returned to me for that purpose. If you plan on using a 300gig you should be fine.
