After having great success with Sony DVD+Rs, my luck ran out! The trouble that I'm having is only with certain disks and not others. I have two different versions of their disks, 1.1/1x-4x and 1.3/1x-16x. I had to replace the hard drive in my laptop and that's when the problem started. The 1.3s work fine, but the 1.1s no longer play. Has anyone else had this problem? Do I need different drivers for each of these to work? If so, where can I get them?

Thanks in advance for any help on this!

the problem with cheap media (sony, staples, some fujifilms) is that it fails, and quite often to:(

although it may seem like a hardware issue its most likely due to the bad media, try picking up some TDK dvd+r/-r.... or if you want to get premium top-brass then go to bestbuy or a local store and see if they carry verbatim brand dvd+r/-r!!!!

since you replaced the hardware im assuming you have reinstalled your OS?

when you install a fresh windows it doesn't have the ability to decode dvds, you must install a dvd player!

although not the best it is free!

best of luck!

Sorry to disagree with my esteemed colleague Tripplite, but I have always had great luck with the Sony Disks. I am currently running through a 100 spindle of Sony 1-16X DVD+R Made in Taiwan variety and have had zero playback/burn issues with them. I can offer no other explanation beside the fact that you have some of the made in Malaysia variety which some have complained about.

I agree I've always had Great results with sony's Either Made in Taiwan or Made in Japan ! have'nt used the Made in Malaysia ones so can't comment on them other Than that others have had problems with them ! I think that what ay have happened in your case ! is that when you replaced your Hard Drive you our your Computer tech may have Upgraded your Dvd Burner's Firmware ( Instructions and data that help your Drive to better record your media - Burn strategys ) While your drive's older firmware may have had a Setting That covered 4x Sony's ! Perhaps the newer firmware does'nt ? What makes me think this Could be it? We'll two things ! 4x media is Old ! that does'nt make it Bad just older stock !and Some newer Dvd Drives may have problems with them being set up for 8-16x Media or perhaps higher speeds even ! Also You say that either before or after your hard drive Replacement you have had no problems with 16x Sony's ThE Currently Available Media ! which I would assume would be in the Cuurent firmware ! Hope this helps ! later Friend !!!

I also have had great luck with MIT Sony's. It's been a while since i've had a spindle of the MIJ's, but the MIT's have worked fine for me thus far.

Trippy
The MIJ Sony's are a little more rare, but the better of the two; IMO. I've still got some MIT's hanging around and haven't had a coaster out of the whole spindle. They're my third choice for blank media.

SONY DVD5s are top notch, up there with Verbs. I burned about 400+ of these (always on sale at BB when I need discs)and no coasters yet.

SONY versions their discs, funny really. The version number is printed on hub where the burn speed is located. you said 1.1 are having issue. You definitely do not need drivers to make them play. That would be ridiculous. Are you sure you finalized it? No mutisession?
