I have a Panasonic LF-D521 that won't read/write DVD-RAM. I'm pretty sure that this is a driver problem, but I may be wrong. In Device Manager (DM) in W2k it shows as working okay for cd-rom and DVD-RAM entries, but in DM under "disks" it shows up as a DVD-RAM drive with problems (Code 10 - won't start). When I click on "driver details" it shows that it is using disk.sys, and it should be using meiudf.sys. I've gone through the update driver wizard and have used an executable from the Panasonic website to update the driver, but it won't take. I've also tried uninstalling the drive, both physically and using DM "uninstall," and using the original installation CD but W2k continues to install the disk.sys driver. I tried deleting disk.sys from the winnt/system32.drivers directory but W2k continues to reinstall it at boot. Good thing, since I realized with a little more detective work that it is needed to drive all the HDDs (including wihere the OS lives).
Does anyone have a clue as to how to get my DVD-RAM working again? The problems began when I replaced a 30GB HDD with a 120GB HDD as a slave to the 521, which is the master on the 2nd IDE channel. It was working fine until then. I've also tried disconnecting the new HDD and that doesn't help.
I've got some screen captures and such, but I've probably given too much detail already. And yes, I have contacted Panasonic technical support. They scratch their heads and say that they've not seen this problem before. I'm hoping that one of the users of this estute forum may have seen it or can recommend something to try.
Thanks
