I'm not very good with computers so I was wondering if someone could help me out. The problem I have is that my PC doesn't want to boot WindowsXP. I am confident that this was cause by a virus because my dumb brother doesn't know how to use the internet properly. Five seconds after I turn on my PC the screen just turns black. After a while I tried reinstalling XP with the boot disk but when it says to press any key to run disc, I press a key and then the screen turns black. I was unsure if it was loading something or not so I left it alone for around 30 minutes. What should I do? Is there any way to remove the virus? Thanks in advance for anyone who's willing to help me.

Hey poofs.

It could be a malware problem, but it also could be hardware. It is best if you can get your computer to the nearest computer repair shop to check your hardware.

Can you take out your hard disk and use another computer to reinstall windows xp onto it?

Best Regards :D

Hello,

I can help you. First, you must format your computer, not by using Windows XP. but by boot disk or other utility programs that is boot disk.

Insert bootdisk.
Format your computer using it.
Then insert the windows xp after reformatting it.

You see, your files like boot.ini and other boot file maybe corrupted and they cannot execute so I may recommend you to reformat it using boot disk. You may ask cdavfrew wher can you get the boot disk. Boot disk reformats your hard disk completely and place or copy new boot files so that it can execute.

try and run a "chckdsk c/f" on your computer. If you have some of your "system files" are corrupted this will fix that.

you can also do a fixmbr/fixboot in case a virus has damaged your mbr.

Sounds more like a Hard Drive "Bit the dust.."

Had that happen to me last week. Got a new WD 180GB 16MB cache 7200 for 53 bucks on line.. 180 is all I need for a Master Drive. I don't keep anything on it but the OS and Apps...
