Hi guys.
about a year a and a half ago i upgraded the ram on my pc from 256 to 1 gig. I, a much younger and keener Mubs left the pc on overnight to merrily download Deff Jam fight for NY.
and what i found the next morning was NOT Def Jam Fight for NY fully downloaded but a fire and black pins on my processor and the corresponding motherboard pad. (ouch)

so i put the computer in my loft saying that i would one day repair it when i had the money, so here i am now (almost with money) going to buy a new motherboard and processor.

My question is, why did this initially happen? is it like a compatibility issue?
and if it is what sort of motherboard and processor shall i now buy that will operate the same ram cards.

Cheers guys,
Mubs

if the PC even booted at all when you first put the new RAM in, it will have been compatible. If the fire occurred the same day as installing the RAM, it could have been the motherboard or RAM that was faulty - if there was a reasonable gap though, it may have been something else like the PSU. I would especially avoid using the RAM you bought as it may have been the cause of the problem. What budget are you limited to? It will be best if you replace the four parts entirely.
