my friend asked me to look at his laptop and its running vista.. which i have no experience with at all lol.
his laptop is a fujitsu siemens esprimo mobile (V5355 <-- i think)

well anyways i keep getting the blue screen when ever i try to search for viruses and trojans.. ive tried trojan guarder and hunter even the kaspersky Anti virus and everytime it gets halfway thru a scan i get:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shutdown to prevent damage to your computer.

a driver has overrun a stack-based buffer. this overrun could potentially allow a malicious user to gain control of theis machine.

if this is the first time youve seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. if this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. if this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need

if problems continue, disable or remove any new installed hardware or software. disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. if you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8
(which doesnt work by the way) to select advanced startup options, and then select safe mode.

Technical information:

*** STOP: 0x000000F7 (0x00000000, 0x00005040, 0xFFFFAFBF, 0x00000000)

Doyle 2727,
I've heard that malicious programs can use the buffer overflow. I believe this is a known security issue with Vista. You should take note of when the problem began and at your start up screen (before Window's loads) go into safe mode and see what programs may have been installed around that time. Uninstall those and make sure that you have the latest patches from Windows. You may have to tinker around for awhile. From another computer you could visit the Microsoft knowledge base for more research. But it definantly seems you have a compromised system. Also, if you know the name of the programs in suspect you can visit security websites for removing anything left over in your registry. Then of course run full system scan.
