i use wild blue satellite internet and i just purchased vonage phone service my only problem is i only have one ethernet port on my modem and one on my computer i need to turn the one into 2 and i am also very computer illiterate so speak slllowwwwly please

A router really is the way to go. They are very cheap now also. Is $40 (USD) in your budget? That's how much used Linksys WRT54G's go for on Craigslist. Not only would you get extra ports, but you also get hardware firewall protection and wireless, which cames in handy.

Ooooo.. you don't know anything about sarcasm yet.. I haven't started.

You can buy a router or you can buy another network card and crossover cable for the other pc you want to have sharing the one connection to the modem..

Work it out.. you will need a dedicated connection running your internal network, and passing internet through to every other machine on your internal network. crapdoze does have the facility to run a dhcp service for internal networks on one of 2 network cards, but it's crappy and hard to set up... and the sharing pc needs to be on all the time with it's security compromised by the sharing aspect of the connection..

Cheapest way is to buy a second hand wired router.. £10 at most on fleabay!

Now about sarcasm... obviously you are totally new to the internet and computers in general. heard of google perchance? It's good for idiot questions like "how do I share one internet connection between 2 computers"

vonage is very picky....if speeds starts fluctuating you get gargled language through the phones....if your using vonage then you must get a router, im sorry there is no other choice...the system is very picky epically with cable, even with using a router i found a lot of issues...

if you split the cable wire (splitter) and connect another modem to it then use that second modem for vonage you'll get a clean unweighted line which is exactly what vonage needs....you maybe charged extra for another modem (from your ISP) but in total you'll be paying less then if you didn't use vonage, internet phone is great!

thanks for all the comments and help but my upload speeds were not good enough anyway see i live in hell i mean way back in the nowhere land we dont even hhave cell service so i got wildd blue sat. internet and it just doesnt do any good
