i recently purchased a kvm switch to use with my pc and xbox 360. i'm really not sure if there is more than one kind, so if there is, this one is a vga switch. i have the vga cable for the 360 and i have an ati dvi video card with the vga adapter plug. the problem is that only the 360 will power the switch (solid green light when selected) and so i must leave it on all the time if i want to use the switch. the 360 will display using the switch with the pc off, but the pc will not display using the switch when the 360 is off. also, when selected, the pc has a blinking green light. i assume the pc, then, will not power the switch. i simply don't want to leave my 360 on all the time or switch between the cables every time. does it have to do with the dvi? any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.
i would assume, that the PC cant power it enough, which would lead me to say that you probably need to buy a KVM switch that has a power source that plugs right into the wall. that way it will power its self and you wont have to bother with which machines will have enough power to power it up.
meant to post my fix a while ago... better late than never i guess. anyway, i use a bluetooth wireless keyboard and mouse, which has a ps/2 keyboard plug and a usb plug for the mouse, hub, etc. i just plugged the ps/2 mouse plug on the kvm cable into my computer and it works perfectly. you don't need to use both the mouse and keyboard plugs. so, basically, the only function the ps/2 mouse plug has is to power the kvm - it doesn't interfere whatsoever with the bluetooth mouse. amazing, the vga alone powers the kvm from the xbox 360 and only the ps/2 mouse plug powers the kvm from the computer. anyway, hope this helps somebody else!
