I've currently got a pair of kingston PC2-6400 DDR2's running 1GB each and i'm looking to get an additional 2GB. (vista is a memory whore).

The only question i'm asking is does it make a difference with frequency? I've got the exsisting RAM fitted running at 400mhz and the new RAM i'm looking to buy runs at 800mhz.

They would be running at different colours on the DIMM ports, just wondering if it would work efficiently without wasting my time?

Thanks in advance.

Matt.

The kingston PC2-6400 does NOT run at 400MHz it runs at 800MHz.

As for adding more RAM your best option is to get the exact same RAM you have now... as it it likely your computer will not run if you get different RAM for the other slots.

Unless you have Vista 64bit it would be better to just buy an extra 1GB.

The 32bit OS only addresses 3GB (OK, technically ~3.2GB) so 4GB wouldn't do you much good vs 3GB.

As mikeh0303 mentioned if possible get the exact same RAM as the other GB sticks you have installed.

The odds of something going wrong are fewer and if problems occur they are easier to diagnose.
