lg 4040b problem

hi my friend has an LG GSA-4040b drive. he has been having a lot of trouble burning dvd-r and +r. he has used mitsumi 4x, memorex 2x and 4x and it will not burn any +r media. i told him to buy princo dvdrs since i've heard they are fantastic with these drives.

i also told him to flash to current firmware but he does not want to b/c he is scared it might void warrenty.

if the firmware fails (just curious) what do you do to fix it? fail as in the power just shut off during update.

Sometimes you just have to take a chance. I have flashed my LG GSA-4040B two times with no problems. I have also flashed the bios on dozens of machines and updated the firmware of CD drives numerous times. Maybe I am charmed, but I have never had a problem.
