i think that the card is dying because on this puter A64-3700, i bought this card almost 1 year ago and the guy from future shop said that, usually cards only last about 1 year, now what i don't remember is wheter he meant the fan dyes or the card usually dies...in intense gaming the card will freeze and magical colors appear in cross-stiched style all over my screen. same thing happened after 1 year use of radeon 9800pro. maybe someone could shed some enlighnetment on what i should do, buy a new card or a new fan? thanx.

I fkn LOL'ed. I really did. That's a ridiculous thing to say in a shop. My X1900XT is 2 and still works, my X1600 pro is 18 months and still works, my X800 pro AGP is the grand old age of 4 and still works, fan and all. As it happens 9800 Pro fans were prone to break, but it's not true of all graphics cards, and certainly not after only 12 months.

Don't get a high end AGP card. If you're still on AGP, stick to something old like an X800 Pro second hand - the top end AGP cards have big technical issues because AGP isn't up to handling all that power.

ok thanx, so what your saying is there is no more life left for my card once i see the colors of death right? what about a X1950XTX agp i still want/need to have pix3l shader 3 support...don't I? I thought the X850XTX didnt have that feature, maybe im mistaking it.
And also would be great if you could give me a little info on what kind of technical issues as well, and also should i get a sapphire/etc version of a card because of the bigger fan, which would make the card last longer correct?

The only cards that have pixel shader 3 for AGP are the ones prone to reliability problems - stick to an old card, or upgrade to PCI express.

and also you yourself own many newer ati cards, if they have alot of problems may i ask why you choose them?

Only the AGP cards have problems. I've been using PCI express variants since 2006.

As for your card, changing the fan could solve the problem, if you can find a suitable replacement.

If you've lived with an X1650Pro this length of time, why not get another?
You're more than welcome to try the 3850AGP but if you experience issues, I have very little sympathy, because dozens and dozens of pages of a graphics thread were devoted to all the issues that were had with a high end AGP card.
