I'm not an advanced user but I'm seeking out the help of those who are... I tend to be longwinded, so here is my situation as briefly as posssible.Ok I have a buddy who has been riping and burning dvd's the exact same way I have, I mean the exact same way, except until recently he had a MUCH faster machine. I had a 1.6 amd with 512 ram and he had a 2.8 celeron with 1 gb ram, so it was understandable that it took him about 45 min to make an image to burn onto disk and it took me about 4-5 hours. Well I made some upgrades to a 2.4ghz processor and a gig and a half of ram and decided to try it again and I am encoding at the same rate! what gives?rippin is fine, I use shrink or decrypter and have no problems there Why is mine so slow. Not only that but I monitored both of out cpu usages durring this process and his barely ever spikes over 30% while mine stays at 100 until it's done. I should also exsplain that I use pinnicleinstat copy to make pdi (pinnicle disk imaes) to be burnt onto the disk can someone give me some answers?

Make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your motherboard chipset.
Check that your device drivers are in DMA mode not PIO.
Do a disc clean up and defrag if you haven't done so already.
You might have a conflicting program, what other DVD programs do you have..

Consider dumping Pinnicle for Nero 6.

Your system should be able to make a copy in about 40 minutes or less with a 4X DVD writer.

Well thats all I can think of at the moment.

I'm still not clear on when your problem occurs. Correct me if im wrong:
Copy movie to hard drive with Decrypter or Shrink (ripping): 25 to 40 minutes.
Creating a disc image and burning with Pinnicle: 4 to 5 hours.

Can you tell us what OS you are using, also what burner?

Frank

you are correct. the ripping part is fine, it's the imaging that gives me problems. I am running xp on the machine. I have went to defrag and one was not necc. (new install on fresh drive) I have dvd cloner and intervideo windvd creator (came with the burner) on the comp right now, have not used either. How do I change or check on the dma?

Hi bigdaddi,
To check/change your IDE controllers:
Start> Right click "My Computer"> Propertys> Hardware Tab> Device Manager> double click to expand IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers> Right click the Primary IDE Channel> Propertys> Advanced Settings Tab.
Change the Transfer Modes to "DMA if Avalible".
Go back and right click on the Secondary IDE Channel and do the same thing.

I think you will find yours set to DMA, your rip times are good.

When you say DVD cloner do you mean CloneDVD?

Your Pinnacle instantcopy is not needed. You do not need to make an image if you can rip with Decrypter.
Rip your movie with Decrypter and then use CloneDVD to compress and burn your disc.

Decrypt Movie> note Decrypter destination folder location> Open CloneDVD> Use the browser, find the folder, click on it then click the VIDEO_TS folder> click "open". Go ahead and delete audio, etc and then burn it.
