DBox and V+ together?

I am currently trying to connect both my V+ and my dbox to the TV. I have used a splitter but the signal to the dbox dies as soon as the V+ is connected. I noticed another thread where someone had the same issue with a Starview box but I'm unsure if the same points are valid here.

I know I can't record dbox stuff, but I want to be able to get the benefit of HD channels and the variety of the dbox.
