Every Dual Layer Memorex Disc has failed for me as well. I will not buy Memorex anymore.

Yes....pay close attention to burn speeds. SONY dual layer +R @ 2.4x speed is particlar to the user burning @ that speed only. Verbatims have a broader burn speed variance. Both brands made in Taiwan are reliable. I've read that this was not the case consistently with either disc when manufactured in Malaysia? I actually prefer SONY dual layer brand as they have given me less trouble i.e. freezing or pixelation which I have experienced with Verbatims for some reason unknown. Memorex along with many other cheaper or house brand types do not make archival quality promises or guarantees. I've observed people buying blank media and people are seemingly attracted to cheap prices and rarely know the difference offered in quality between the brands. But if it does matter to you choose the most reliable store bought brands like SONY or VERBATIM. They so far have held up for years in both 4.7GB and 8.5 dual layer.

Yeah. With how things are turning out with the MII Verbs, I might have to go SONY too.

Stopped off at my local Sam's Club just to have a look-see. They have 50-packs of Verb DL MIS for $60. There must have been 100 packs, all MIS. Went by another Sam's just North of town and all they had was MII for the same price. After my chores and such, I wheeled back into the first one and picked up two packs. Keep checking Sam's Club. Verb DL MIS are still around. Or maybe they're back? The odd thing, they were in the new purple packaging.

Stick with MIS, MII works horribly!!!!, I had various coasters with MII, and even various factory defects which could not even let me burn them in the first place, i really dont recommend you buying MII.
Instead I have chosen to buy MIS (they are the 8x at newegg), and they work really good, almost to perfection (0 coasters and very low amount of errors: PI/PO errors).
With memorex I had good results too, although not as perfect as Verbs MIS, they have burned ok and with a moderate amount of errors (I mean PI/PO errors), but still I prefer them as choice when burning DL dics to other people. The thing to remember is to always choose a moderate burning speed, specially with low quality discs (e.g Verbs MII)
I ordered recently a Verbatim DVD+R DL 8X, it came in purple packaging, although I was safe because they where MIS.

Has Memorex changed their manufacturing locations or companies? I've always had horrible luck with Memorex. Just wondering about that, especially with B&M stores around Nashville slashing Memorex DL prices down below a buck per disc. I stick with Verb MIS.

For dependable results, there is only one....Verbatim DLs, MIS.

Office depot has OD Brand stack of 25 +R DL for $20. Not a bad deal. Anyone used these and what they code out as? I am with bilbo on this one verbatim MIS! But under a buck DLs are tempting.

I've only used 3 brands at 8X: Verbatim (MIS), Sony (MIT), and Memorex (made in Garbageville). Verbs have been flawless. So have the Sonys even though the MID code was Ritek (some people had bad experiences with Ritek DLs). I won't ever touch Memorex DLs again. I had to toss almost all of the spindle. Even when they burned through, they would skip in my DVD player.

I agree there. I still have a few Sony MIJ. Every now and then you can find them at Sears, or other places like drugstores. But for regular DVDs, I use TY. Wish they'd start manufacturing DLs.

I was devoted to memorex for a long time, I would always use there DVD+R's and never had real problems. Then I bought a 50pk spindle of the dual layers and every disc I made failed.. I was like wtf, and I always heard that Verbatims were the best but I never had a problem w/ the cheapo Memorex. So i got a 20pk of singapore Verbatims and 20 out of 20 (though 2 of them were fucked up b/c of my own fault).
You will spend more for them, but your paying for quality, unless you get the ones from india which I heard are diff then the singapores..

There will be those out there that buy on price alone. Some will absolutely NOT get the good stuff because they want to prove "all discs are equal". I'm an old coot living in the hills of Tennessee, transplanted from Piedmont North Carolina, but believe me, you do get what you pay for. It's been an expensive lesson for me. TY, Verbatim-MIS, Sony-MIJ, or any MIJ for that matter are the way to go. Until they build a better mousetrap, I'll stick with what gives me about 97% good results. As in all results the variance is +/- 3% . . . gotta be politically correct here . . . LOL.

You know, I've heard mixed reviews on Ritek DL and SL, both. Guess I ought to spring for a pack and see for myself.

Had good luck with both, (Ridata line), but stay away from the Arita line (2nd rate)

Same here. I haven't burned a DL in quite a while either, for the same reasoning.

There's been nothing worthy of using a DL disc on, in many moons. We're not cheap, just financially challenged.

correct garmoon. i pretty much traded in my DVD+R DL for DVD Rebuilder lol. my savings are around 1.20 per blank dvd (using a dvd-5 SL compared to using a dvd-9 DL ,something to consider guys. BTW the memorex DVD+R DL code out as Ritek which is just ok media

They might code out as Ritek, but they do not work. I had 100% failure with a batch of them.
