USB HDD and Shin Megami Games

Has anyone had any luck getting any of the Shin Megami games to run off of a USB hard drive? I have Nocturne, DDS I & II, Persona 3: FES, and Devil Summoner and none of them seem to load off of the external hard drive. I would assume it is not my method since I have other games that will run off of the external just fine.

I own all these games and they are being copied straight from the DVD drive to the USB HDD using ul_install.
