PS2 can't read disks - Browser IC Problems

Hi,
I have a Slim PS2 , modded with matrix infinity which is working fine so far, now suddenly it stopped recognising any disks. So i suspected laser and gave it for repair and they returned me the PS2 saying this is not laser problem, there is a problem with browser ic and they do not have the ic. Since now iam living in india, i find it difficult get it repaired.

When I tried again with Some cd and dvd's, i have notice it recognised on ly2 cd's. 1 is PS2 media player cd and loaded the player, when i swaped the disk with media files it is not playing.
2nd disk matrix infinity upgrade disk. When PS2 is switched on with this disk inserted a message is displayed ' Press start to upgrade firmware'. when i press start nothing is happening.

So can anyone know what is the problem? Laser or Broser IC ?
