Ok lets make this simple.
I got a ps2 (big kind) and a maxtor hd.

I got a blue hd utility disc to format the drive.
The drive is not from sony, its just maxtor.

The blue disc doesn't "see" the hd, and I'm told of programs
such as HD Loader and HD Advance that'd make the ps2 "see" the hd.

However I'm not paying for a program I can't figure out how to use,
yes that means I burned my own HD Loader and HD Advance discs that
the ps2 doesn't read either.

There is no mod's done to the ps2.

Why would I burn those discs? hmm because I like to try software
before I toss $ into the wind? I'd be more than happy to buy the
software if I can confirm it works.

No I don't want to trust the opinions of others that it just
magically works, because so far the ps2 doesn't even read the
burnt copies I made.

Now that we have that arguement out of the way. I want to make
the ps2 see the hd.

How do I do that? If I'm usin those discs how do I get them to work?

No I don't have the cash for both a mod chip and the above software.

If someone would be kind enough to work with me it'd be greatly
appreciated, I know theres alot of hate against people who use
copies of the software but I seriously have doubts if I can't even
get a burnt copy to be seen in the ps2, after all what the hell is
the paid disc in the end? their own burned copy? >.> anyways thanks
for reading all this, I'm not trying to be mean or emo. I just want
to make this work after 2 days of stress.

=)

1. the hdd utility disc is only for the official sony hdd.

2. you CANNOT use burned discs if you do not have a mod, so buying the originals is the ONLY option.

3. you are NOT going to get anywhere unless you spend the money.

ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10

got a whole lot more to list . . .

LOL sounds like a very arogant person here :P

First of all original disks are not burned they are pressed. That's why you cannot play burnt copies of games, the drive can tell the difference. This is a console not a PC game.

You will have to either buy one original piece of software or find someone you know who would be find enough to lend you theirs.
If you have to buy one I recommend getting Swap Magic not HdAdvance because you can run hdloader from the MC exploit and if it or your hdd messes up you can still use swap magic.

There is also the newer MC exploit ppl are using that doesnt require a trigger disk and works on any ps2 system, if you can find someone with that then then can just stick their MC into your PS2 and add the exploit to yours.

If you cannot trust the opinions of those we are already happily using these exploits then tough, go buy the games you want! Though your remake also seems a bit moronic considering these forums are made for other people to help you and give you advice and yet you are saying you wont trust them and would rather ignore their advice. So why post in the first place???

So to make this simple, to read those burnt disks you have made you will either have to buy a modchip or buy/borrow an original copy of Swapmagic.

Its not that i want to ignore help, I just simply didn't know the games and such were pressed instead of burnt, but on a more direct note i could of sworn i pointed out I wasn't interested in doing all this to copy games or back them up. I simply wanted to get a working HD for ffxi on the ps2.. but so much for that..

the only way to get FFXI working is with the official sony 40gig hdd.

good luck on finding one at a decent price. ebay is probably the best place to look for it.

You can use your Maxtor drive with the PS2. It's just that you will have to either buy an original HD Laoder or HDAdvance, or Swap Magic or get a modchip installed.

As I said before I think it's better to get an Original Swap Magic then download hdloader. After that just follow the tutorials on this forums.

Almost forgot, there is one more thing. I recently added a hdd to my bro's ps2. It wouldnt recognise his hdd but would detect mine. Ends up you have to have the drive pin set to Master.

I already had the pins set to master, slave, CS, no pins set, and even used the double pin setup just to make sure.

In the end.. idk why.. but sony's utility once saw this drive even
though it ain't a sony hd, now it just doesn't see it..

Thanks again.. but i guess i'll just end up buying a sony hd in the end.

If you are going to buy something buy Swap Magic. How big is an official PS2 hdd? 40GB. And if you decide to add some movies and music to that hdd, that small amount of space is used up really fast. Or 10 games, not much there really.

GEt Swap Magic and whenever you need to you can upgrade to larger drives or have several, most of these drives wont only be larger than the SOny ones but cheaper (per GB)

Idk.. I mean its like I said before.. I don't really have any other
intentions of using it for anything but that one purpose.. when I
consider it though it would be nice to be able to swap the hd out
into another friends ps2 when I travel an stuff.

But isn't SM just for backing up games? how would it even force the
ps2 to recognize the hd?

You get the PS2 to boot from the memory card. You can install the exploit as well as hdloader onto your memory card. But to do this you need either a modded ps2 or swap magic so that you can run things from a usb pen drive.

So when you turn on the PS2 it loads ulaunch.elf instead of loading from the cd drive. Then you can select whatever you want, eg hdloader.

And you need a program called WINHIIP on your PC to format your hdd so that hdloader can recognise it. This also allows to you install game ISOs onto the hdd as well.

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/665761

Have a look at the thread above if you want to install the Memory card exploit. You will have to format your memory card though before you try to install it, so make sure to save any games you want onto another card or usb drive.
