Im trying to reinstall my win xp sp2 pc, I've successfully formatted the hard drive.
I restarted the pc and when it asked should it use cd support I press yes, i then typed d: into the command and then "setup". The cd starting spinning and then it said "setup cannot be run in DOS mode".
So then i took out the windows 98 boot disk and ran the cd by itself, it loaded and then said this..
"Press and key to start CD.......Missing Operating System"
Does anyone know how to resolve this? I've tried reinstalling my pc before (about one year ago) using the same method on the same pc.
I dont understand why it shows this error this time :-S
I know i aint the best with computers but cumon! You think I would know that i had to press a key?
It actually says "Press any key to run CD" I pressed the enter key, then it adds ... to the end of the sentence and then comes up with "Press any key to run CD.... Missing Operating System"
Im not doubting your intelligence but sometimes we forget the smallest things :)
Anyways from the sound of it your keyboard is not responding to key commands. Try another keyboard or try to reconnect the keyboard. Try to go into the bios to make sure.
Of course as you know...when it says no operating system, that means when you cannot load XP it will attempt to access the OS. And since its not there thats when you get the "Missing Operating System"
The reason im trying to install windows xp is because there is no operating system, lol
I tried loading the cd as cd support with my win 98 boot disk but it said you cant run the setup in DOS, thats why i tried using the cd byitself, but its just saying no operating system.
I dont understand what to do, I've reinstalled my pc a few times before (nearly a year ago though) so I cant remember exactly how it was done
You need to run fdisk from the windows 98 floppy, delete all partitions, then create a new one, then format C: after that restart and set bios to boot from CD
