Alright, I know there's tons of ways on how to get the Independence/Memory Card Exploit onto the Memory Card. But I thought I'd put up this guide on how to do it using a PSP Action Replay MAX (In a way). Now, I'm not sure if there's different versions of it, but mine came with two CD's, one for the computer (The Action Replay itself), and a CD I'm going to refer to as Save Manager, 'cause I don't know what it's really called. Save Manager let's you copy/move saves from your memory card, to your USB-Connected PSP, in .max format. It's pretty easy to see how this guide's gonna play out. Let's get started.
If you don't have a PSP Action Replay MAX, just go on eBay/Amazon and look for one. Don't go to the Codejunkies/Datel website, it's not on there anymore. I think they might've discontinued the PSP AR.
Things you're gonna need
- A PS2 (Duh.)
- A PSP OR some type of Flash USB thing, iPod works great
- A PSP USB Cable (Unless you're using a USB Flash Drive)
- PSP Action Replay MAX (With the Save Manager CD) OR Just the latest PS2 Action Replay MAX
- PS2 Save Builder 0.8x (http://sksapps.com/mis/PS2SaveBuilder08x.zip)
- Independence Compiler 4.1 (http://sksapps.com/exploit/independencecompiler4.1-titlefix.zip)
- A PSX disc
Alright, let's get started here. By the way, this should work on the Slim, too, but you never know. I have a Fat, myself, so Slim hasn't been tested.
First, download those 2 links I gave you up there. Extract them, then run the Independence Compiler 4.1.
1. Alright, pop your chosen PSX disc into your computer's disc drive.
2. Open up Independence Compiler 4.1 (I'm gonna refer to this as IC4.1 from now on)
3. Click on the Title.DB tab.
4. Now, choose what drive your PSX disc is in (For example: Mine's in my E: Drive), then click "Get ID from CD".
5. Then click "Add to Title.DB". Don't worry about hitting "Save Title.DB", as it'll embed this information in the .XPS (Memory Card file) we'll be making.
6. Click on the Loader Tab.
7. Now, LaunchElf 3.4 is a bit dated (In my opinion), so I'm gonna recommend uLaunchElf 4.12 (Because that's what I'm currently using), which can be downloaded HERE. (Note: It's only the BOOT.ELF file, so you can't make a CD out of it.)
8. Download it, unzip it, then click the IC4.1 window. Right now it's set on LaunchELF 3.4, so click on "Other" and it'll let you browse for the BOOT.ELF extracted for the zip.
9. Click on the Files tab. This is optional, but recommended. This is where you can add .ELFs to it, so you can boot them in uLaunchELF. Incase you don't know what an .ELF is, let me simplify. An .ELF to the PS2 is a .EXE to Windows. It's the PS2's type of executable, in a way. I'd suggest going to SksApps.com for a huge archive of .ELFs. (http://sksapps.com/index.php?page=mis.html)
10. Once you find an .ELF you want to add, browse for it, click open, then on IC4.1, click "Add". You have to add .ELFs one at a time.
11. Ignore the "IP Options" tab, and click on "Region". If your PS2 is NTSC, click on NTSC. If it's PAL, click on PAL.
12. Ignore the "Dummy" tab, as we're not making a CD.
13. Click on the "Create Exploit" tab, and at the very bottom, change the Output format to "Memory Card (XPS)".
14. Hit "Create Exploit"! It'll compile all the info you entered, and put it in yourhardriveletter:\IsCentral. It'll be a file called "IsCentral.xps". Now, this part's done.
Now, we're going to get the super simple part.
1. Open up the PS2 Save Builder 0.8x you downloaded.
2. Click on "File->Open...", and browse to the IsCentral.xps file. Hit open.
3. Now, here's the easiest step in this whole Guide. Click on "File->Save As..." and change the File Type to "AR MAX V3 (*.max)". Name the file whatever you want, it doesn't matter though. Hit Save!
4. Now, you can close the PS2 Save Builder.
5. Next, grab your PSP and USB Cable, and connect to your computer. (On the PSP, scroll over to "Settings", and go down to "USB Connection". Hit X.
6. Go to My Computer, and open up the drive your PSP's on. Drag and drop the Exploit file (whatyounamedit.max) you just made, and put it in the drive the PSP's on. Don't put it in any of the PSP's folders, the Save Manager CD won't pick it up if you do.
Now, the exploit installation part.
1. Start up the Save Manager CD in your PS2.
2. Connect your PSP to the PS2 using your USB Cable.
3. Alright, first, click on the memory card you're putting the exploit on. Delete any unimportant Game Saves you don't need anymore. Then, move/copy the important ones you don't wanna delete over to your PSP. You can bring them back later.
4. Make SURE you delete the "Your System Configuration" file on your MC. If you don't, it could probably cause a conflict later on. Now, your MC's empty. It's better to have it empty, so you have more room for .ELFs.
5. Now get out of your memory card, and click on the PSP icon (If you have your PSP Connect to your PS2 by USB).
6. You'll the important saves you put on it, and one save in particular. One that has a blank name. That's the exploit file. Don't copy/move it your MC, go down to "Uncrush", and uncrush it to the memory card you're using for the exploit.
7. Once it's done, YOU'RE done. The exploit's ready. Just put in the PSX disc we used earlier in the guide, hit reset, and it'll load uLaunchElf. Wa-la!
Make sure you keep the exploit on your PSP, incase you'd accidentally corrupt/mess up the exploit on the MC. If you do, just delete it (It'll be named "Your System Configuration" on the MC), and repeat the steps above this. Simple.
Now, if you're reaaaaally new to uLaunchELF, I'm sorry to say I'm not gonna sit here and explain it. But, there's tons of tutorials all over the net on how to, so just Google it.
Now, if you got any question/comments, I'll be a little slow to reply, probably. I hope this guide helped.
Oh, and happy first post to me. :B

Actually, I dunno why I didn't say this earlier. You can actually just use a regular AR MAX Disc, at least the latest one with built in Max Memory Manager. Also, for it to work with Xploder, when you get to the PS2 Save Builder Part, save it as a Xploder 4 Pro (*.p2m) and give that a try. It may work, even if it is the Xploder 4 format. If not, let me know. And sorry for the slow response :P
