I bought a second hand ps2 of craigslist about 2 weeks ago. It was working ok. It was a modded unit. I could play backups with no problems.

I had a problem with it though. It wouldn't play original ps2 games or dvd movies. So i opened up the console to see which modchip it had. Found out it had a Messiah 2 pro.

After i put it back together i started to get read disc errors. I tried everything. Made sure all the ribbons were connected. Cleaned the lens. Try adjusting the tilt on the laser. Voltage adjustments. All to no positive result. It doesn't play anything. Not originals, not backups, not dvds or cds.

I was hoping i could connect the hd to my computer and do something from there, so that my ps2 will boot. I just want to play :(. I would really appreciate some pointers. I'm completely new to all this.
I have one big question. Can install a hdd with some backups in it without a working dvd/cd? Anyone know what i could have possible done to ruin my dvd/cd? I had no screws left over :). If possible how can i do it?

I had a sleepless night trying to fix it already. I've tried everything. I'm hoping that i can still make use of it through hdd. Someone please help me, or tell me that I'm f##ked so i can stop trying to find a way to fix it.

What makes me mad about it is that i didn't even touch the dvd player. I just moved it around a bit so i could disassemble the ps2 :(.
