I'm about 45 hours into FFVII, and something is wrong with my disc 2. I've tried taking it to the game store to have the scratches removed, I've tried toothpaste, and I even bought some $10 disc repair kit from Radio Shack... Nothing seems to be working to repair the disc so that I can finish the game. (Toothpaste got me through some rough spots with the disc, but now it won't load a part that I need to continue the storyline.)
So I've been looking into burning a disc and perhaps disc swapping for the remainder of disc 2 (disc 3 should be fine). I have the original and used it to initiate the game and get right up to the point where it won't load the next town (when I enter Rocket Town from the world map).
I downloaded a disc 2 file from rombomb and used Alcohol 120% to burn the CUE file to the disc (CD-R). I got on the world map, popped out the original (scratched, apparently) disc and popped back in the burned copy. The music stopped, and it won't load. I haven't tried to disc swap yet.
Before I go to the trouble of taking apart my PS2 (fat) to prepare it for disc swapping, I'd like to check here to see if I'm doing something wrong with the disc I burned.
I have 2 files - a 715.5 MB BIN file, and a 1 KB CUE file. I went to Image Burning Wizard in Alcohol 120% and entered in the CUE file as the file I'd like to record (it's the one that popped up, and the file size was listed as 698.7 MB under the file information). I went to the next screen, selected Playstation as the file type, and hit "Start."
The disc that was produced this way did not continue the game when I swapped it out with the original conventionally. Is there something wrong with how I went about writing this disc, or do I need to use this same disc, but disc-swap?
Theres is probably nothing wrong in the way you burned the disc. However, you did not mention if your ps2 has a modchip, uses breaker pro or if you use an exploit. You will need one of those to play backup disc.
