windows XP (Home edition) USB access prohibited

I cleaned up my registry the other day and now when windows starts up I get an error message stating "administrator has prohibited access to USB/Firewire mass storage devices and has prohibited access to both CD/ROM drives". I tried restoring the system to an earlier date several times but that didn't fix the problem. I have seen that several other people have had a problem similiar to mine and I have tried editing the registry as they indicated, but still no luck. Any advice would be appreciated.

I tried all of these before and I didn't have any success. I am the administrator of my personal computer and still can't get access to my drives. I'm ready to just reformat the "C" drive, but I'm curious as to why this happened so if it happens again I'll know what to do. It appears that it would help others as well. I am using my backup hard drive so I can continue using this computer and all of its drives. Thanks for your help.
