I downloaded the 1.5 kernel, I currently have 4.01 official firmware. All I'm really trying to do is put a genesis emulator on it for a big road trip I have coming up. What would one do from this point?

The 1.50 kernal is only for custom firmware like 4.01 M33 not 4.01.
U have the official fimrware. To get 4.01 M33 ...
To downgrade (and get a custom firmware) or unbrick your PSP, u need the Pandora's Battery. There is three ways to get the Pandora Battery.
1. Find a someone who has a Custom Firmware that is willing to let you borrow their psp. You will use his psp to softmod the battery. Meaning using software to make the Pandora. If you willing to do this, follow this guide:
GUIDE
2. Hardmod the battery. Meaning that you have to open that battery up, and pulling out a pin. Note that if you pull the wrong one, your battery would be messed. If you are willing to do this, follow this guide
GUIDE
3. The most safest way, is to buy the DATEL tool battery. It is already a premade pandora battery. If so, follow this guide or use the same guide on the second step.

I have vista, but I have another PC with XP on it, so that should work..
Also, what other emulators could I run with M33? Is there a list somewhere?
(Yes I looked, can't find it =/)

list ? no, not that i think so. Though most emu work fine. Do u have a fat or slim psp? It would really help a lot.
U can give me a what emu u want. The most famous one i know is
N64 (laggy, works only for fat psp)
GBA ( works for both, no lag)
SNES (no lag, works for fat and slim)
Is there any particular emu u want. I can tell you how to install it.

okay ...
For Playstation, there is no such thing. Cuz it is already built in ! That's right, full speed. Once u get to 4.01 firmware it is already built in.
Download the game, then convert the game with psx2psp. Or to be easier download the psx already made for the psp.
For Sega Genisis,
here is a huge guide
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/674604
"say thanks to dr1ver for me" for spending a huge time on the guide :)
EDIT: If u download the ps1 game in the iso format. or rip it out from a ps1 disc. Use psx2psp to convert it. If u want more help ask Dr1ver, since im goin to shut down my pc. Have a good road trip :)
