How do you know there is anything on the disk if you can't copy the contents to the hard drive.
Does explorer show the disk having files?

It sounds like a DVD-VR format disk.
Are the file folders thus:

DVD_RTAV
VR_MANGR.BUP
VR_MANGR.IFO
VR_MOVIE.VRO

Inside the 'DVD_RTAV' folder should be a file named 'VR_MOVIE.VRO'.
If that file is dragged from the disk on to the Desktop, and renamed as 'VR_MOVIE.VRO.mpg', any DVD authoring program like Nero Vision or DVD Flick should be able to open it and convert it to a standard DVD format which can be burned to disk.
