DVD-RW PS2 DVD game backup problem (SOLVED)

First off, the situation:

I have a mod-chipped PS2 slim. (what version I'm not too sure as it the unit was a Christmas gift and bought as is...) I have been able to download PS2 ISOs through torrent and burn them on media and play them no problem. I borrowed an original Final Fantasy VII: DIrge of Cerberus PS2 game from a friend (who gave me his permission to try and backup the game) because I do not want to damage his copy of the game while it is in my possession. I have successfully burned 2 ISOs (the ones I got through torrent) on my Mac using Toast Titanium 8 to one DVD-RW disc and it DID play on the PS2 perfectly fine so I know the PS2 can read the DVD-RW...

The Problem:
I have read and tried this guide to make an ISO of the original game on my PC (which doesn't have a burner hence I use the mac to burn) and make a backup of it but my PS2 doesn't seem to be able to read the disc at all. I also tried the normal way of simply making an ISO and then burning it to the DVD-RW (after transferring the ISO I made to the mac).

This is my first time trying to back up an actual original copy of a PS2 game and I did try to follow the instructions as much as possible (minus the reburning process which I had to perform on my mac). Could it be that there is something I missed? Has the game been successfully backed up (specifically on a DVD-RW) and played before?

I am stumped. May I humbly ask for assistance? Also, I'm sorry if this has been asked before (though I think my situation is specific enough and I HAVE searched before posting this up) and if this is in the wrong thread. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. ^_^
