How to Rip DVD's with Magic DVD Ripper
By: FuZ3

Things Needed:
-DVD Drive
-Magic DVD Ripper (Trial Download)
-XviD Codec (Download)

First start off by putting the DVD you want to rip into your DVD drive.

If you have gotten this far, the rest of the tutorial is cake. Open up Magic DVD Ripper and the DVD you put in should show up under source.

Now select the title you would like to rip. If it's just a normal DVD, Title01 is going to be the main movie file.

Then click the little folder icon to select the output destination.

Then select a name for the output file.

Then go to Options -- Profile Editor..

Then highlight AVI and select Modify

The General Information category should be fine unless you want to change the name of the profile. Then for the resolutions you can put whatever you want. I like 640x360 for both my wide screen and full screen rips. Then under AVI Options make sure the codec is set to Internal MPEG4 Codec and the audio bitrate is 128 kbits. Then we are going to go ahead and click the little button that says Bitrate Calculator.

Everthing should be preset so just go ahead and click Calculate.

Then it will give you a video bitrate in Kbits, remember that.

You can then click cancel on that screen and type the video bitrate that you just got from the calculator into the designated spot.

Then simply click OK on that screen. Now you are ready to start the rip so just click Quit on the profile editor screen and click the Start button.

When the ripping is complete you will get a nice little popup.

And then you can close the program and go to your output folder.

And there you have it, your DvdRip!

The 1-2 hours to rip gets me. When I do just a movie to avi format, it takes about 30 minutes or so.

This program only converts to other formats. If you want to backup your DVD you will have to purchase Magic DVD Copier.

I have to say, even though it sounds quite slow and I probably won't get it - I really liked the way he did the step by step guide. As someone that doesn't know much about computers, I would find a guide like that very helpful! :)

I don't see this as being any better, in any way over the trusted method(s) of DvdFab or Anydvd.

I'm afraid this looks, smells and sounds like classic spam.

This is the only program that rips DVD's that I actually like. I believe I tryed DVDFab before but I don't remember why I stopped using it. Magic DVD Ripper is a good program and I would reccomend it to anyone.

I wrote the tutorial because I would search for tutorials on how to rip DVD's but I could never find any myself, so I thought it would be helpful for others to write my own with the program that I use.

But something like ripping DVD's won't ever get old, except when the time comes that they just zap movies into your house or you have virtual reality to just live them.

And the 1-2 hours thing, my computer sucks. Stock Dell PC with 256mb RAM. My DVD drive is also external, but don't know if that makes a difference or not. Could be the reason, not really sure. I only know random things about computers.

When I need to convert my movies, I use DVD Rebuilder.
