Does the BIOS recognize the drive? Does the front light blink on and off when you start the computer? More information will be help to successfully troubleshoot your problem.

yeah it blinks and stuff and it turns but it doesnt read it
I think that is your best option, right now burners are really cheap and instead of troubling yourself with a damaged burner, buy a brand new that you are sure it will work. Although make sure your burner is really not working, because right know it may be working but you may have missed a configuration or have a software conflict, so before you go and buy a new one make sure that your computer is not the problem.

Agreed! I mucked around trying to get my old DVD writer to work for several months. Got it to work once, came back several weeks later and nothing. Went out and bought a new one last weekend and have been happy ever since.
