Please help me rip my home movies to my hard drive!!

I am having the hardest time figuring out how to do this. My camcorder records to DVD-RW and I have finalized the disc. I've tried using DVD Shrink which took forever and then had an error message halfway through three times in a row. Then I tried Magic DVD successfully, but my playback had all these pauses in it. Then I tried Easy DVD Rip and the playback was horrible picture quality with all these green flashes of light in it. Finally I stumbled upon this forum and read your welcome thread, but I think I'm just totally in the dark. I downloaded DVDFab and successfully (I believe) ripped the DVD, but now I have no clue how I would play back the files it left me with. I am interested in playing them on my computer but also being able to share them with friends and family online so I would need a format that will work without having to download anything other than like, Windows Media Player. If I've posted this in the wrong forum I apologize but I looked around and thought this was my best option. Thanks in advance!
