Are all DV (1394) 4-to-4 pin cables the same config?

I just brought above cable (£3) for recording from a Cannon MV700I (Old yep) to a Panasonic DMR-EZ27EB DVD Recorder but the DVD Recorder does not see the output from the camcorder, i also tried on a Targa DRH-5000 DVD recorder with the same result, thing is Cannon recommend their
CV-150F Firewire Cable which sells for £20-30 ??? which looks like it has special filters or crossover on the cable. Do i need to buy this specific cable instead....
