OK, so here is my probelm.
My grandpa needs his computer reformatted, but he doesn't have the recovery discs. It is a compaq presario SR1650NX. I tried to burn the recovery discs (has program that does this for you) to DVDs but it won't read the discs. I have an XP and Vista DVD disc as well, so I tried to reformat the whole computer w/o the origional recovs with those. It wouldn't even read those discs, and yes, I did check the BIOS.

The computer couldn't have driver problems with the drive, because the computer has never been reformatted or the OS changed since bought from the store.

If someone could please help me with my problem, I would GREATLY appreciate it.

What I think might be an alternative:
I have a USB DVD drive at home (50 miles south), would it work even w/o the drivers, (before the OS loads)?
