I am looking to build a PC for home use and mostly Video recording, editing, encoding and compositing. I have asked a couple of times, but I want to make sure I get exactly what I should and that everything goes together...no memory issues etc. I have a capture device that is pci, HD tuner that is pci and probably a sound card so I need a couple of pci slots still. All help is appreciated.

Like I said I am ready to buy and hoping to get the best info possible.

So hows this! should I buy the 9300 quad or 6700? I am planning on running 1 main HDD, then 3 media drives. So is that psu overkill or just right?

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115027
MOBO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128086
VIDeO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150267
SOUND: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829102002
PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139006
RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231122
Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129021

so again let me know. Can I do better as far as ram? How many fans should I use for cooling. IN my antec case I have now I have 7 fans running to keep my Intel p4 2.8 cool and have never had a problem.

Let me know. I am looking to start buying asap!

thanks in advance

Todd

Both CPUs are nice. If overclocking, I'd probably say get the 6700, 9450 if not. The 9450's faster to start with but problematic to overclock.
Motherboard is good.
GPU is a poor choice, these are miles faster: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102747
PSU is powerful but unnecessary, this is more than enough:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139004
RAM looks fine, case is fine. If you're still after a case, then I also recommend considering this though:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146047
Does the same job, but more quietly...

if you spend $5 more you can get ddr2 1000 instead.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231145

and you can save $50 if you get the q9450 from microcenter.

Do you have a memory you think would work out better?

I am going to start ordering, so if you can let me know that would be great.

I am not overclocking like you said. I really dont even play games. Chances are I will never even install one. I am going to use this to capture, encode and render video files.

I am planning on buying a blue-ray burner and burning hi def vids with this also.

for encoding faster memory always helps, but unless you go to your BIOS and set the divider to run the RAM as close to your rated speed as possible, your normally going to run it at 1:2 OR 1:2.4 which will not reach your rated speed of 1000MHz, it its 1:2 then itll run at 666MHz, and if its 1:2.4 then itll run at 800MHz which is PC6400. if you can get PC 6400, and wont bother going into bios, and leaving it auto you will be running at its rated speed. but if you get PC8000 and leave all on auto in the BIOS you will only be running PC6400 in which case it would have been a waste of money.

I am going to buy one of them saturday, so any help would be appreciated.

any thoughts on the available blue ray burners? Anyone have any experience with them?

oh and anyone know where I can get windows xp pro the cheapest? and can I use the 64 bit xp pro?

Ok, So I bought my CPU, HDD and MOBO at frys today. They matched all the online prices which was great. I got the cpu for 279.99 so I am glad I went there.

and for anyone looking for a ep35 dsr gb board they have about 8 or 9 of them at the frys I went to so most likely all of the frys have a few kicking around.

Ok, duly noted. The EP45 boards are merely the new replacements for the 35s.

Yes, basically none of it will work. 64-bit XP is useless.

As long as you already have a Hard disk and a CD/DVD drive, that's all you need. Your CPU will come with a cooler, as the use of one is mandatory. Your call if you want a better CPU cooler. A better one will get the job done better, but unless you're overclocking it will make no odds unless you want less noise, and the stock cooler isn't that bad for noise anyway.

The Tempest is a much better design than the 900. It might look the same, but trust me, the tempest is a better case to own, there are lots of horrible design flaws in the 900 that bugged the hell out of me.

Any Corsair PSU will fit fine in either.
